The little ranch with a big heart

Happy R Ranch was founded in 1997 when we were married, and for old time's sake, put five commercial cows with a Brangus bull at 'Fairoaks,' Terry's inherited portion of the family ranch. Terry was raised in the 1950's and 60's helping out with his father's 100 head cow-calf operation and country grocery store in Fairoaks, Texas. They were known for their tasty 'Home Killed Meats.'   Fairoaks, is a tiny community between Groesbeck, Buffalo and Jewett, with a Donie mailing address.

When we retired from our first careers in 2005, we began slowly stocking the ranch to capacity. We chose Brangus for their black hide, calving ease, longevity and the built-in benefits of heterosis. During the severe drought of 2006 we picked up 20 head of registered Brangus, all Brinks foundation (KO, Transformer, Trooper, Brightside), and started AI'ing, and retaining heifers.  IN 2010, we capitalized on the Camp Cooley dispersal by acquiring Blackhawk, Blanda, Garrett and Lambert semen, as well as a phenomenal herd sire in Quanah of Brinks, a son of LTD.  

We are proud of what we have developed with our own 4 hands.  It's just the two of us, and we handle all aspects of the operation. We are present for every birth, administer every vaccine, and do our own artificial insemination.  In short, we know our cattle.  With only 200 acres, we use a pasture rotation scheme to manage 55 head, plus 5-10 development bulls and 10-20 replacement replacement heifers. We are members of the International Brangus Breeders Assn. and the Texas Brangus Breeders Assn.

Our schedule is full with ranching, and it is  a labor of love, but we make precious time for our other passions in life which include our 5 children and 12 grandchildren, our ministry called Hooked on God, tournament bass fishing, hunting, cattle dog rescue, and competitive trail riding.

We value our relationship with our customers and pride ourselves in supplying quality genetics at reasonable prices.  As odd as it sounds, we aren't in this to maximize profit. We want to bless others with the best deal possible.  We know that all good things come from God, and we live by faith that He will  bless us with good customers.  We desire that His Glory shines through us in everything we do, and that everyone we encounter will know His love.
